American Heart Month
February is American Heart Month, and unfortunately, most of us know someone who has had heart disease or stroke. Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in the United States; one in every three deaths is from heart disease and stroke, equal to 2,200 deaths per day. These conditions are also leading causes of disability preventing people from working and enjoying family activities.

Julia Dickman, MPH, CHES
Julia Dickman, MPH, CHES is a graduate of Loma Linda University School of Public Health in Loma Linda, CA. She is a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) and has served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Malawi, Africa, where she worked as a community health advisor. She instructs the Eight Weeks to Wellness program and facilitates the Depression Recovery program.
